THE FACT: The Warriors snapped the Lakers three-game winning streak by defeating Los Angeles 104-96 at Oracle Arena.
THE STAT: The Lakers held the Warriors to 40% shooting through the first two quarters, but allowed a whopping 57% of Golden State's shots to fall in the second half.
QUOTABLE: "Our guys played their tails off out there. We came out and took smart shots, passed the ball well, played great defense. That's a winning combination."
-- Warriors coach Mark Jackson
TURNING POINT: The Lakers had a good opportunity to win this game late in the fourth quarter, but fatigue appeared to be setting in to Kobe Bryant and coach Cheeks replaced him with Nick Young. In this stretch, the Lakers would score no points and allow six straight to Golden State. Bryant checked back into the game with 2:30 left in the quarter, but the Lakers were never able to come closer than five.
HOT: The Warriors as a whole were connecting on almost everything in the second half of the game. Klay Thompson scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, including 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Thompson did all of his scoring in the second half of the game.
NOT: The Lakers post defense has been praised this season for overachieving given their personnel, but the Warriors were able to barrel through the much improved defense at will. The Lakers allowed exactly 50% of the Warriors points to be scored within five feet of the basket.
GOOD MOVE: The Warriors pounded the ball into the paint and avoided careless three-pointers from the get-go, swaying away from their normal style of play. This move inevitably came because of the lack of fundemental big man defense being played for Los Angeles. The Warriors attempted only 12 three-pointers on the night while scoring 52 points in the paint.
BAD MOVE: Trevor Ariza was assigned to guard Stephen Curry from the opening tip to halftime, which provided some great results for the Lakers. Curry had only 4 points on 2-for-10 shooting with no assists in the first half. However, the final buzzer of the second quarter would be the last time that the Lakers would match Ariza up with Curry and instead went with Marcus Smart. In the second half, Curry scored 20 points on 6-for-14 shooting and dropped 9 assists in the half.
NOTABLE: Curry got into foul trouble early, picking up his second personal with over 8:00 remaining in the quarter. Warriors coach Mark Jackson decided to roll with Curry and his two fouls for the remainder of the quarter; Curry did not commit another foul all game.
UP NEXT: For the Lakers, Sunday @ LA Clippers, Monday @ Sacramento, Saturday vs. LA Clippers. For the Warriors, Saturday @ Miami, Monday @ Atlanta, Tuesday @ Orlando.
