La Salle trips Charlotte on the road, 99-90

Jan. 4, Charlotte NC - The La Salle Explorers continued their winning streak now at 15 games by outshooting Charlotte in a high-scoring game, 99-90, at the Halton Arena. The Explorers shot 50% from the floor while the 40ers were not bad at all with 44%. The big difference was the 3-point arch where the Explorerss shot a high 40%.

Up 55-45 at the half, La Salle stretched the lead to 15 but an 11-2 run by the 49ers cut the lead to 4, 70-66, midpoint in the second half. Charlotte's big men, however, were hampered by foul troubles and this allowed the Explorers to maintain control of the offense. A 7-point explosion by Kimmani Barrett late in the game sealed the victory for the Explorers.

Kimmani Barrett shot 20 points in the second half alone to finish with 28 to lead all scorers. Reuben Gilliam, who was hot early in the game, settled for 18 while Rodney Green contributed 14. Gary Calloway, who fouled out, and Gary Butts led the 49ers with 17 points apiece. Tanner Rush and DiJuan Harris added 15 and 14 respectively.

The Explorers sputtered early against a slow half-court offense by the Rams but still managed to tale the half with a slim 40-36 advantage. It was close all the way with the Rams tying the game at 44-all before the Explorers unleashed a game defying 10-0 bomb breaking the game wide open.

La Salle's leading scorer Reuben Gilliam and strong forward Kimmani Barrett added 13 and 12 respectively. Jacob Green led the Rams with 15 points while Lance Brown and Decon Darnell contributed 13 and 12.

The La Salle Explorers travel to Ohio where they play conference favorites the Dayton Flyers at the sold out UD Arena on January 19. The Flyers are expected to be bannered by All-Conference forward Christ Wright and the conference leading rebounder Kurt Holman.
