Blue Jays Place Buchholz on 10-Day IL, Recall Pannone

Toronto, ON -- The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have placed right hander Clay Buchholz on the 10-day injured reserve with a fracture wrist. Buchholz sustained the injury in the Blue Jays' 5-2 win over the New York Yankees after taking a comeback line drive off his wrist.

The 34 year old hurler has had a rough season so far, going 4-7 through 16 starts with the Blue Jays. Over those 16 starts, he has compiled a 4.40 ERA. While Buchholz was a potential bounce back candidate heading into this season, it now seems like he won't be able to take the mound until at least late August -- well after the trade deadline. Buchholz is expected to miss 1-2 months with the injury.

In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays announced that they have recalled southpaw Thomas Pannone from the Triple-A BUffalo Bisons. Pannone has faired well at the highest level of the minors this season, putting together a 7-3 record and 3.34 ERA through 70 innings of work. Pannone is expected to take Buchholz's spot in the Blue Jays' rotation..
