Re: "The birds on the bat need to get stronger" - A Cardinals Franchise

Cardinals Win Finale
The Cardinals finally get their first win of the season. The Cardinals smacked down on the opposing Pirates 8-3, scoring 14 hits, and cleaning up their defense, making no errors. Carlos Martinez was magnificent until the 6th, when he aloud 2 runs. He went 7 innings. Jeff Locke was not as impressive. He had a tough game on the mound. For one, he was hit 3 times on the foot from come backers. Not to mention that he only went 5 innings, and aloud 4 runs. The other 4 runs were aloud by Corey Luebke, who gave up 3 of them, none earned. The other was given up by Arquirmedes Carminero, which again, was not earned. The Pirates defense was very, very bad. They made 3 errors. As for the Cardinals bullpen, Seung-Hwan Oh and Kevin Siegrist came up for both of their first appearances of the young season, and both were magnificent. They both went one inning, and aloud no base runners between them. As for the offenses, the Cardinals had the power stroke back tonight. Hitting 2 Home runs Brandon Moss came off the bench in the 8th and hit a Pinch Hit, 3 Run Home run down the line in left. Aledmys Diaz also went deep, this being his first career home run. He also had a double going 2-4 and getting player of the game. Randal Grichuk and Matt Holliday were also hot at the plate in this one, each having 2 hits. Rookie Jeremy Hazelbaker also got his first career hit in this one, a single to right. As for Pittsburgh, their 4 hits came from Gregory Polanco, who had 2, Starling Marte, and Andrew McCutchen, who both had one hit. Their RBIs came from Polanco and McCutchen.

Cards take opener in Atlanta

A very well played game is something that the Cardinals are having a hard time doing right now. But after this one, I think we have some hope, winning 4-1. Michael Wacha was very strong, going 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, and striking out 6. He also walked a batter. The Cardinals 4 runs came mostly from right fielder Stephen Piscotty, who launched a 2 run Home Run to left in the 5th. Matt Carpenter also went deep in this one, hitting a ball to right center for a homer. The other RBI was from Matt Adams on a double. Matt Holliday also had a nice game, going 1-4 with a double. Trevor Rosenthal, Jordan Walden, and Jonathan Broxton all saw time out of the pen, Rostenthal getting his first save of the young season. As for Atlanta, this game was one to forget. Their lone RBI went to Kelly Johnson. Bud Norris took the loss, but injured his elbow in the 3rd and left the game in obvious pain. Their bullpen was pretty solid, allowing 2 runs, both on the home run to Piscotty gave up by Joel De La Cruz. Their offense was weak, only gathering 5 hits, 4 of which from Ender Inciarte and Kelly Johnson, who had 2 each, the other hit going to Freddie Freeman.

Cardinals drop game 2

A very, very scrappy game played by the Redbirds today. They loose 7-4. All 7 runs were allowed by Mike Leake, who was terrible in his Cardinals debut, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing 13 hits, and the before mentioned 7 runs. Only 4 were earned, though. His counterpart, Dan Winkler, went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs and 9 hits. He was very good today. Jason Grilli came on to get the save, his third. The Braves also used Arodys Vizcaino, Jim Johnson, and Alexei Ogando out of the pen. The Cards only used two bullpen arms, Seth Maness, who went an inning, and Jordan Walden who went 1.1 innings. As for the offense, the Braves were on fire. Kelly Johnson went 5-5 with a HR, getting him player of the game honors. Nick Markakis was 2-4, he had an RBI and a double, Erick Aybar had a 2-3 day with a double. Fredie Freeman also went deep in this one. As for the Cards, they were cole up until the 7th, when they scored 2 runs, then 1 in both the 8th and 9th. Kolten Wong went deep in this one, going 2-3 with the 2 Run HR. Matt Adams was a tough at bat, going 3-4 with a double. The Cards get the rubber match tomorrow, as Adam Wainwright is pitching.

Re: "The birds on the bat need to get stronger" - A Cardinals Franchise

Cards lose in 15

The Cardinals are looking to go home as they have lost 2 of 3 against the Braves, losing 5-4. This one was a 15 inning marathon, after the cards Scored 3 in the 9th to tie the ballgame up. Adam Wainwright when 7 innings, giving up 10 hits, and 4 runs. Seung-Hwan Oh pitched 2 innings, as well as Tyler Lyons and Jonathan Broxton. Kevin Seigrist pitched one inning, and Jordan Walden got the loss. As for the Braves, Williams Perez was great. The blown save went to Jason Grilli, which lead to this 15 inning mess that 12 pitchers were used in. Hunter Cerenka got the win for the Braves. As for offense, the Cardinals saw Yadier Molina go 4-6 with two doubles, Kolten Wong go 2-6 with a double, and Matt Carpenter go 3-7. The Braves had an equal offense, both teams notching out 14 hits. AJ Pierzynski was brilliant at the dish. He was 3 for 7 with a HR and a double. He also had the walk-off hit for the Braves.

Re: "The birds on the bat need to get stronger" - A Cardinals Franchise

St Louis loses the home opener.

Jaime Garcia pitched well in the 4-2 loss today. The Cards actually had a 1-0 lead most of the game. The 8th inning killed them. Garcia exceeded his limit clearly, and aloud all 4 Brewers runs in the inning. He was removed for Kevin Siegrist who pinned it down, and Seung-Hwan Oh kept it at that deficit in the 9th. Taylor Jungmann was good as well. He went 7 innings, a third less than his counterpart. This left the door open for Tyler Thrornburg, who went an inning, and Will Smith, who got the save after allowing a run to the Cards, who tried to comeback. Matt Adams had the an RBI, as did Kolten Wong, Matt Adams scored the first run of the game, and Jeremy Hazelbaker came across to score in the 9th. Ryan Braun had a nice day at the plate for the Brewers, going 2-4 with an RBI. The Cards hope to bounce back after an off-day tomorrow.
