Re: San Diego Padres Franchise - MLB The Show 23

Padres Take 2 out of 3 Games Against the Rockies

The San Diego Padres started the season off at home with a series win against the Colorado Rockies. The bats were on fire throughout the series, as they carried the Padres to a 2-1 record to start the year.

Game 1: Padres 7 - Rockies 4
The bats came out hot to start the season in the first game. Fernando Tatis Jr. kicked the season off with a leadoff home run. He went 2 for 5 on the day with 1 RBI and 2 runs. Manny Machado went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run. Both of his hits were doubles. Juan Soto went 2 for 3 on the day with 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs. He was your player of the game. Xander Bogaerts was 2 for 4. One of his hits was a double. Matt Carpenter had a great day, going 2 for 4 with a HR, 1 RBI, and 1 run. His other hit was a double.

Yu Darvish gave up a couple of runs early, but he settled down and took control. He went 5 innings, giving up 3 ERs with 3 Ks. Nick Martinez came in for 2 innings, giving up just 1 hit and striking out four players. Steven Wilson came into the game in the 8th inning. He gave up one run to make the game 7-4, but then Josh Hader came into the game in the 9th inning to slam the door shut.

1-0 record

Game 2: Padres 2 - Rockies 0
The bats were a little quiet during this game, only getting 3 hits total on the day. Those three hits came from Xander Bogaerts (1 for 3), Nelson Cruz (1 for 3 with 1 RBI) and Ha-seong Kim (1 for 3 with 1 RBI). The odd part about this game is that all three hits came in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and they were all doubles.

Not much to say about the pitching except it was downright dominant. Joe Musgrove had a very strong outing, throwing 7 innings, giving up only 3 hits and striking out 9 batters. The only blemish on his day was that he walked 3 people. Luis Garcia came in during the 8th inning for his setup role. He struck out 2 people. Then Josh Hader once again slammed the door to get his second save of the season.

2-0 record

Game 3: Padres 6 - Rockies 7
The bats started off slow in this game but our guys eventually picked it up. Fernando Tatis Jr. went 1 for 5 with 3 Ks. Jake Cronenworth hit 3 for 5 with 1 run. Juan Soto was your Player of Game, however, as he went 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs. One of his hits was a HR, which was his 3rd HR of the year.

On the mound, Blake Snell really struggled giving up a run in each of the first 3 innings. This gave Colorado a 3-0 lead. He made it through 5 innings and then Nick Martinez came in to throw 2 innings. He was successful as he struck out 2. Luis Garcia came in the 8th inning hoping for a clone of his 8th inning in game 2, but that wasn't meant to be. He gave up 4 runs in the inning before finally being replaced by Tim Hill, who came in a got the last two batters out. Steven Wilson finished the game off in the 9th.

On a side note, our team was down 7-2 to start the 9th inning, but we fought our way into a position to possibly win the game as we scored 4 runs to make it 6-7, and the bases remained loaded. Unfortunately, Ha-seong popped out to center field to finish the game.

2-1 record
