TIGERS SWEEP REDS
Spencer Torkelson (27) homered, and drove in two, as the Tigers opened their three game series against the Reds with a 4-2 win. Jack Flaherty (9-2) allowed two runs over five and a third innings.
Jake Rogers doubled in two in the top of the 6th, leading the Tigers to a 3-1 win over the Reds. Matt Manning (11-2) allowed no runs, and scattered five hits over seven innings, earning the win.
The Tigers completed the sweep of the Reds, with a 3-2 win. Riley Greene had a pair of RBI, and Spencer Torkelson also drove in a run. Casey Mize (11-3) pitched 5 and a third scoreless innings, to earn the win.
The Tigers now head back home for a four game series against the Guardians (37-53). They then host the Dodgers for three games, heading into the All-Star Break.
Maeda to have surgery
Pitcher Kenta Maeda will have UCL Reconstruction (Tommy John) surgery. Maeda was placed on the I.L. on Friday (July 5th). Alex Faedo took his spot on the roster. Reese Olson is expected to take Maeda's spot in the Tiger's rotation

TIGERS SWEEP TWINS
The Tigers opened the three game series with the Twins with a 9-0 shutout win. Causey Mize (10-3) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits, striking out seven. The Tigers got home runs from Jose Agua (16), Spencer Torkelson (26), Kerry Carpenter (10), and Kyle Dutcher (31). Carpenter drove in four.
Tarik Skubal (17-0) tossed a complete game two hit shutout, as the Tigers beat the Twins 4-0. Carson Kelly (6) homered for the Tigers. Jose Agua, Riley Greene, and Mark Canha also had RBI.
Jose Agua (17) homered, and drove in four, leading the Tigers to an 11-3 win, and a sweep of the three game series. Kyle Dutcher hit his league leading 32nd home run in the win. Kenta Maeda started the game, but left after four innings with elbow discomfort. Reese Olson (2-1) earned the win in relief.
The Tigers now head to Cincinnati, for a three game weekend series against the Reds (43-45).
TIGER'S NOTES
MAEDA LEAVES GAME WITH ELBOW DISCOMFORT
Pitcher Kenta Maeda left Thursday's start after four innings with elbow discomfort. He is scheduled to be examined on Friday. It is feared that he may have suffered some ligament damage, and might require UCL reconstruction surgery (Tommy John surgery) or UCL Brace surgery. Maeda previously underwent UCL Reconstruction surgery in August of 2021.

TIGERS WIN THREE OF FOUR AGAINST THE ANGELS
The Tigers opened the four game series with the Angels, winning 3-1. Tarik Skubal (16-0) allowed a run on seven hits in seven innings, earning the win. Colt Keith hit his 6th home run. Riley Greene drove in two.
The Angels rebounded to take game two, 5-4. Mike Trout (22) homered and drove in two for the Angels. Spencer Torkelson had three RBI for the Tigers. Shelby Miller (3-1) took the loss for the Tigers.
The Tigers scored six times in the top of the ninth, erasing a one run deficit, and hung on for a 6-3 win in game three. Riley Greene (16), Spencer Torkelson (25), Kerry Carpenter (9), and Kyle Dutcher (30) homered for the Tigers. Carpenter had two RBI. Beau Brieske (3-1) earned the win in relief. Brandon Drury (13) homered and drove in two for the Angels.
For the second straight game, the Tigers took the lead in the ninth inning, this time scoring five runs in the inning, erasing a 6-3 deficit. They hung on for an 8-7 victory, and a series win. Jose Agua (15) homered twice, and drove in five. Javier Baez (18) also homered. Jason Foley (3-0) allowed three runs in one inning, but picked up the win. Brandon Drury (14) homered and drove in three for the Angels.
The Tigers have an off day on Monday, then head to Minnesota for a three game series against the second place Twins (48-37)
