TIGERS (30-7) TAKE TWO OF THREE IN CLEVELAND
The Tigers won a slugfest in game one, by an 8-6 score. The Tigers hit five home runs, while the Guardians hot two. Kyle Dutcher (13) and Carson Kelly (3) had a pair of homers each, and Spencer Torkelson (15) also went deep. Casey Mize struggled, allowing five runs on ten hits in five innings.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and held on to beat the Guardians 3-2 in game two. Spencer Torkelson doubled in a pair of runs in the first inning. Jose Agua added his first career home run, a solo shot in the second. Agua, a Cuban free agent signed in the offseason, was called up right before the series began.
Tarik Skubal (7-0) allowed two runs on eight hits in six and two thirds innings, to earn the win. Jason Foley pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save.

The Tigers dropped game three by a 5-4 score. Jose Agua (2) and Kyle Dutcher (14) homered for the Tigers. Agua had three RBI. The Guardians got a three run home run from Brayan Rocchio. Jose Ramirez added a solo shot of his own.
Kenta Maeda (5-1) allowed four runs on nine hits in five and two thirds innings, and took the loss.
The Tigers have an off day on Thursday, then head home for a six game homestand, beginning with three against the A.L. West leading Houston Astros (23-13)
TIGER NOTES
Zach McKinstry placed on 10 Day Injured List, Jose Agua recalled
Prior to game one of the series, the Tigers placed Zach McKinstry on the 10 day Injured List, with a pulled calf. The team recalled OF/3B Jose Agua from Toledo. Agua was signed out of Cuba in the offseason.

TIGERS TAKE TWO OF THREE FROM YANKEES IN NEW YORK
The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two, and cruised to a 7-3 victory in game one. Kyle Dutcher (11) led off the game with a solo home run. Spencer Torkelson (14) added a home run later in the first. Andy Ibanez (3) homered in the second. Carson Kelly (1) added a two run home run in the 4th. Kenta Maeda (5-0) allowed three runs in six innings, to earn the win.
The Yankees evened the series with a 5-4 win in game two. Juan Soto (7), and Anthony Volpe (3) homered for the Yankees. Volpe drove in two. Colt Keith had a pair of RBI for the Tigers. Spencer Torkelson, and Mark Canha also had RBI. Jack Flaherty struggled on the mound, allowing four runs in four innings. Reese Olson (0-1) took the loss in relief.
Game three went to extra innings, with the Tigers squeaking out a 6-5 win in ten innings. Detroit jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three. The Yankees tied the game in the 8th. Kerry Carpenter singled in a run in the top of the tenth. The Yankees loaded the bases on a couple walks in the bottom of the tenth, but Alex Lange (13) locked things down to earn the save. Gio Urshela drove in three for the Tigers. Javier Baez (6) homered.
The Tigers now head to Cleveland, for a three game series against the Guardians (12-23). The Guardians have lost 13 straight.
TIGERS NOTES
Agua could force Tiger's hand
Not much attention was given when the Tigers signed Cuban free agent Jose Agua in the offseason. Agua played well in the Cuban league, hitting for power. But, his inability to hit lefthanded pitching scared most teams away. Not many expected him to make much of an impact. But now he may be forcing the Tiger's hand. Agua hit .351 with 5 HR and 16 RBI at AA Erie. He was then called up to AAA Toledo, where he has added 6 more home runs, and 13 RBI, while hitting .400 (including .667 in limited action against lefties). Agua is capable of playing third base, as well as the corner outfield positions. His gaudy numbers in the minors could force a call-up in the future.
Rogers playing himself out of the lineup
Catcher Jake Rogers has really struggled. He's hitting a meager .148 with 3 HR and 8 RBI in 27 games thus far. Backup Carson Kelly is hitting .281, and is likely earning more playing time. If Rogers doesn't turn it around soon, he could find himself back in Toledo. Detroit doesn't have a whole lot of depth though. They have prospect Dillon Dingler (.256, 0 HR 4 RBI in Toledo) and Veteran Anthony Benboom at Toledo. They do have an intriguing option at Erie, in Pat Lemmon, an undrafted free agent signed this offseason. Lemmon is hitting .395 at Erie.

TIGERS (26-5) TAKE TWO OF THREE VS CARDINALS
Spencer Torkelson (12) homered, and drove in his 34th run of the season, helping the Tigers to a 3-1 win over the visiting Cardinals. Mark Canha, and Kyle Dutcher added an RBI each. Matt Manning (6-0) tossed seven one run innings, striking out six.
The Cardinals evened the series with a 3-2 win in game two. Nolan Gorman (11) homered, and drove in two. Spencer Torkelson hit his 13th home run of the season in the loss. Casey Mize pitched well, but took his third loss of the season.
The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th, to walk off the Cardinals 2-1. Colt Keith tied the game with an RBI single. Mark Canha pinch hit, and singled to center, driving in the winning run. Tarik Skubal struck out eleven in six innings, allowing four hits and just one run, but he got a no-decision. Andrew Chafin (1-1) earned the win in relief.
