San Diego, CA
- Padres' Adrian Gonzalez, delivers the game-winning RBI in the 9th inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park.

A great night for Padres fans, as Padres star first baseman - Adrian Gonzalez delivers in the clutch, hitting the game-winning RBI for the Padres in the 9th inning. Another no decision for Padres pitcher Mat Latos as he pitched another quality start who allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, also strikeout 5.

Padres bullpen held up this time around. Tim Stauffer vultured his 1st win of the season out of the pen after a disastrous outing in Colorado.

"You always like to come back to win, and we were able to do just that against their bullpen." Padres manager Bud Black stated.

Everth Cabrera continues his success in lead-off spot for the Padres. Cabrera went 2-for-5 and an RBI. Kyle Blanks is still very effective in the 5th spot behind Gonzalez as he went 3-for-5, increases his batting average to .350 after struggling in previous games.

Game 2 of the series, Diamondbacks will send their ace Brandon Webb who was very effective against the Padres this season, against Jon Garland of the Padres.

San Diego, CA - A dramatic come from behind win courtesy of Scott Hairston late in the game to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3.

Padres was hoping to continue the offensive outburst coming home at Petco Park this series, but that is not the case. Coming into this series, Padres only tallied 6 runs total in the series against the Braves. You can't blame it all on Padres hitters. Braves pitchers has been phenomenal this series including their bullpen.

In the 8th inning, Padres Will Venable hit a towering shot to left field for a what could have been a 3-run shot, but Matt Diaz took it away with an amazing over the wall catch.

Braves bullpen is hittable after all. Ask Padres' Scott Hairston. Hairston, hit a dramatic 2-run home run in the 8th inning to give the Padres the lead late in the game.

"I was down in the count 1-2, but Eric (O' Flaherty) threw a ball that I can hit. I took advantage of that and I hit it well enough for a home run." Hairston stated.

Next series, the Padres will host the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park at 7:05 PM. Mat Latos will get his 2nd start of the season, first at Petco Park. For the Diamondbacks, Rodrigo Lopez gets the call.

Notables:

San Diego, CA
- Atlanta Braves rookie phenom Jason Heyward shines, as the Padres drop another game against the Braves at Petco Park.

Shoddy bullpen work torpedoes Padres, as Braves get come-from-behind win.

The Padres were on the wrong side of a 7-1 tally in San Diego last night, as the Braves collected the win number 2 of the 3 game series at Petco Park.

Stellar performance by Padres pitcher Kevin Correia who worked 7 innings, allowing 1 run and 5 hits, and while that was good enough for a quality start, it wasn't good enough for a win. The game changed when Edward Mujica came on with the score tied, as he promptly allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and was pinned with the loss in relief. To add insult to injury, Padres pitcher Sean Gallagher was rocked on his outing last night. Gallagher gave up 4 runs to increase the Braves lead late in the game.

Atlanta's Jason Heyward put up very good numbers against the Padres. Heyward went 3-for-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI.

The Padres and Braves wrap up their series this afternoon with Clayton Richard and Tommy Hanson projected to start at Petco Park.

San Diego, CA
- Padres 5-game winning streak snap by Atlanta Braves at Petco Park.

Padres open their first game at Petco Park this season against the Atlanta Braves. Padres won their last 5 games coming into this game. Padres pitcher Chris Young pitches well until the 5th inning where Braves' Matt Diaz took him deep for a 3 run shot to left field to put the Braves on board 3-0.

Braves pitcher Tim Hudson pitched a masterful game against the Padres, Hudson pitched 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, and strikeout 3 Padres.

Padres had plenty of opportunities to tie or take the lead. The lead off double by Kyle Blanks in the 4th inning was wasted and in the top of the 7th inning, Chase Headley had runners in the corners, 2 outs. Headley ground out to Martin Prado to end the inning.

"Very frustrating lost. We had good opportunities out there to drive in some runs, but we didn't." Gwynn Jr. Stated.

The Padres and Braves play again tomorrow at Petco Park. Kevin Correia and Jair Jurrjens are the probable pitchers for game 2 of the series.

Et Cetera:

- Blanks continues to hit well in 5th hole behind Headley and Gonzalez.

Phoenix, AZ
- D-backs offense, too much for Jon Garland and the Padres in series opener as the Padres fall to D-Backs 4-2.

Padres opened their season in Arizona where they go up against the host Diamondbacks. Yesterday's game was close, but in the end the Padres couldn't push across enough runs, losing to the Diamondbacks 4-2 in a NL West contest. Adrian Gonzalez sparked the Padres offense, going 2-for-4 and driving in 1 run in right after David Eckstein brough Everth Cabrera home in the 2nd inning. Padres rally ends in the 2nd inning, D-Backs ace Brandon Webb pitches a gem yesterday going 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned run, and 5 strikeouts. On the other end, Padres pitcher Jon Garland was clobbered in his Padres debut. Garland worked 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in defeat.

"I did not have complete control of my pitches up out there.." Garland stated.

Garland did not have control of his pitches indeed. In the 4th inning, Garland gave up a go-ahead home run to Miguel Montero and eventually gave up another in the 6th inning to Conor Jackson. The Padres threatened in the 9th inning with runners in the corners with 1 out, but Chad Qualls was too much against Will Venable, who struck out with a chance to tie or to get the go-ahead run in the 9th. Nick Hundley had also had a chance in the 9th, but he was out on a fly ball to right.

Game 2 is this evening, with Chris Young taking the mound for the first time this season, against Dan Haren of Diamondbacks.
