I've updated our front page poll with a question that I've been wanting to get everyone's feedback on for some time now. The new poll asks if you're primarily a sports fan (who also likes video games) or a video gamer (who also likes sports)?

Personally, I love sports. I love sports so much that I'm not just content with watching them on TV or participating in them in real life, but I also want to simulate them in the video games I play. So I'm a sports fan who also likes video games. Let us know what you are by voting in the poll in the right menu of our front page or by clicking here.

So, I played basketball last night for the first time in who knows how long. It really does suck to get old. My knees are just not what they used to be.

What do you know, the Pistons finally won another big game, beating the Magic last night. Well, they have had their # over the years. RIP is still out w/ the groin issue, good solid win. 4 in a row now.

What's up with you?
  • QOTD: Who do you see playing in Super Bowl XLIII?

I usually don't believe in making New Year Resolutions, but this coming year I am hoping to make some major changes in my life.

So, I thought it would be a really cool idea for me to use my OS Arena Blog to make a record of my desired changes/resolutions and then come back at various points throughout 2009 and see how I am doing.

Then at the end of 2009 I'll re-visit this and see how many of the things that I set out to accomplish, actually got done. So let's get started ...

1) Change my job/Start a career for myself. - I'm 27 years old and treading water. I am at a job, not working on a career. Furthermore I hate my job 99% of the time. I can't make enough money to move my life forward in my current situation which leads into my next resolution ...

2) Save more money. - I can be a frivolous spender at times. I buy entirely too much "stuff" just so I can say that I have it. I am more of a collector at this point when it comes to buying stuff than I am anything else. This also ties into my next goal ...

3) Spend less money of gaming. - I buy too many video games at full price and don't end up getting nearly my monies worth. Hell, I still have several games in my backlog that are still unplayed or even unopened.

4. Spend more time with those that are most important to me - family and friends. - Just what it says, spend more time and appreciate that time, with my family and my good friends. I've started this one already, but I need to commit to following through from here on out.

How bout' dem Cowboys eh? Embarrassing. What a great time to be a fan. Ugh, the season is over. I don't see how Wade keeps his job, but it does seem as though Jones wants to keep him. We'll see. The players have to be accountable for something and Roy Williams? He has been a joke.

Oh well, had a great Christmas break, watched a ton of movies, including some very good Japanese (english subtitled) ones. Very relaxing. Back to the grind today, but it's a short week, again.

What's up with you?

Stuckey played lights out last night, scoring 40 in a Pistons win. AI pulled his groin and might be out for a while. It will be interesting to see how the Pistons do w/o him.

The Yankees make me sick, I hope they have another crappy season.

With Christmas only one day away (it is New Year's eve already here in Australia) and the year quickly coming to an end, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back at 2008 from a personal and professional perspective. I also wanted to thank everyone who has visited OS over the past 12 months and share with you some of our successes.

Personally, 2008 has been a huge year for me. Not only did I drastically increase my involvement with OS, but I also left my job at EA after having spent 4 years there. My wife and I also relocated from Canada back to my original home country of Australia. 2008 was very exciting for me, in large part thanks to the success and growth of Operation Sports.

Here are some interesting stats:
  • Over 3 million unique people visited Operation Sports in 2008
  • They generated over 100 million page views
  • They spent an average of 9.52 minutes on the site each time they visited
  • 82% were from the USA, 5.5% from Canada, 2.2% from UK and 1.2% from Australia
  • 47% used Internet Explorer to browse, 43% Firefox and 5% Safari
  • 91% were used Windows while 6.6% were on a Mac
  • 1024x768 was the most popular screen resolution (30%) followed by 1280x800 (20%)
  • 30% of our traffic came from Google
  • Top search words that led to OS were “operation sports” (9%), “nba 2k9” (4%) and maddenmania (2.5%)
  • Over 27,000 new members registered at Operation Sports
  • Over 55,000 new threads were posted in the Operation Sports Forums
  • Over 1 million new posts were posted in the Operation Sports Forums
I've just recently sent emails to all OS team members thanking them for their contribution to the site. So to Steve, Chris, Chase, Dave, Ben, HD, all of the writers, forum admins including Mill, Fishepa, TJ I'd like to thank you for your dedication and commitment to OS over the past 12 months. Some of you I have worked with closer than others, but as a whole it has been a great deal of fun growing OS with you.

2009 will be a big year for OS, there is no doubt about it. We're well positioned to expand even further based off of the ever increasing interest and quality of the new sports games scheduled for release. We're busy expanding our site's feature set to build off of the new generation of sports games that focus heavily on online interaction.

In closing, I wanted to thank everyone who made OS a regular destination in 2009. It has been a great experience being heavily involved with OS over the past 12 months, and I look forward to continuing this into 2009 and beyond.

Merry Christmas!

Finally finished all of my Christmas shopping yesterday. Might have to get a few more stocking stuffers, but I'm done.

Great game between the Pack and Bears last night, the Bears still have a shot at the playoffs. I don't know how those guys can play in that weather, it looked insanely cold out there.

What's up with you?

How about my favorite choke job team in the NFL? The Dallas Cowboys failed me again, yet STILL have an opportunity to win and get in next week. I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle it. Which team will show up? The team that beat the Giants? Or the one that lost to the Steelers and Ravens... They can never make things easy. The Lions continue their perfect season, will they cap it off?

Pistons showed me that nice 3 game winning streak was a fluke as they've lost 2 straight now. So sick of watching them.

Here is a quick update on a small new addition we've made to the site.

A couple of days ago we added a new tab to your Arena. The "Scores" tab lists all of the games you have rated and their respective Reader Scores and Hype Scores. You can use this tab to change your scores if you so desire.

Really looking forward to the Boys vs. Ravens game tomorrow night. Last game in Texas Stadium, should be a great game. Both teams need the win, so I expect Dallas to maul over them.

Wifee is taking me to a nice restaurant tomorrow as well, for my "birthday" present. We've heard nothing but good things about this place, so I'm looking forward to it.

We are placing Nat in a private school, starting after the Xmas/New Year's holiday, she is so excited.

Pistons got back at the Wiz last night, getting a good win. But really, the Wiz aren't that good and neither are the Pistons at this point. Hell of a game between the Hawks and C's, too bad the Hawks didn't win. C's, Lakers and Cavs are the class of the NBA at this point.

I'm getting sick of Brett Favre, anyone with me here? LOL.

I was thinking earlier today while driving and listening to music and I remembered when my cousin's father died suddenly and tragically a few years ago. He was still a young man of his 30s.

Apparently, he had written a living will and had some songs he really liked, so at his funeral some select classic rock songs were played and I felt like it really reflected the man's personality and also seemed to bring home the loss even more immediately.

Obviously, that left quite an impression on me. So as I still think about that from time to time, even today, I thought to myself - what would I want played at MY funeral? I'm limiting it to 5 songs, to make the choices harder and more important.

Obviously, I'd love some feedback from everyone who looks at this blog. That said - here are my 5 songs that I want played at my funeral when I die.

I will also post the order on which I'd like the songs played.

First Song - Dust In The Wind - Kansas
(Sums up Life)

Second Song - If Tomorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks
(For my 2 year old neice)

Third Song - He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones
(for the few women that I have loved)

Fourth Song - Goodbye To Romance - Ozzy Osbourne
(One final goodbye to my friends)

Fifth (Final) Song - See You On The Other Side - Ozzy Osbourne
(Very Fitting in my opinion)

*If I got a bonus song - since it's my blog (LOL), then this would be the one*

Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce
Just a beautiful song full of meaning.

Ya, so I had some ice cream cake for my birthday last night. I'm sorry, but ice cream cake is the BEST cake in the entire universe. Yup, I've been there and back.

The Boys have 5 guys on the Pro Bowl squad. Romo deserves to be there.
