The Modern Age Of Player Injury
Posted on March 23, 2023 at 10:28 PM.
JxmyHiroller's essays are a regular part of my YouTube basketball diet. A couple of years ago he pointed to a possible correlation between landing on one straightened leg after a dunk and knee injuries among NBA players. Now he has further food for thought on injuries in the modern NBA. In NBA 2K8, I played with the Injury slider at 100. I got an incredibly accurate total number of players on my league injury list total; if I recall correctly it was somewhere between sixty and eighty, which would be about two to three players per team, though healthy (or lucky) teams had zero. I found the sweet spot on the Injury Severity slider, so many of the injuries were either playable or of short duration; of course, there were ten or so longer duration or season-ending injuries. Losing a key player to injury has never bothered me because I am about the story of a realistic season. Could the points of this video make it into MyNBA, or would it be too hardcore for casual tastes?
