NBA 2k11: The Association Roundup: Atlantic Division
Posted on September 28, 2010 at 05:42 PM.
The Association. The preferred mode for many people will again draw you in and wont let you play another mode. This year they have built on the strong showing from last year with many improvements and additions to authenticate things further. Are you still trying to figure out what team you're going to embark on your digital journey? This guide will help you chose which team fits your style and what you want outta this mode. This will be a rundown of every team in the league with a few advantages as well as disadvatages with choosing them. I will also show you some reccomended pesonnel moves to fill those problem positions as well as concerns for you as you move along. I will be doing a division a day starting with the Atlantic today. Hope you enjoy!

ATLANTIC DIVISION

Boston Celtics

Roundup: The Celtics are by far the best team in the division and will lock up at least a 4th seed come playoff time. They are a well rounded bunch with a lot of experience and skill to back it up. This is a good team to chose if you want to win now and put the future off to another time

Advantages: Great defensively from the starters to the bench, they can really lock you down at will. Can also hurt you from multiple positions and take advantage of mis-matches as they would in real life.

Disadvantages: They are an old bunch of guys in the starting lineup and can be a tad slow at rotation and on defending the fast break. Will be difficult playing athletic teams who leal out on the miss.

Problem Positions: To be honest the Celt's really have no immediate weakness , but the positions you need to look out for a few years out is definitely the big men, With Shaq and Garnett approaching the end of their career you're gonna need to look for young talent via free agency or draft.

First moves: The first year for a Celtics gm will be relatively an easy one. One thing I would recommend looking for a younger sg as Ray Allen isn't getting any younger and you could find a team that is willing to take on Rays salary. There is also a clog in the middle of the lane, you can afford to give up one of the centers for a backup sf who can score.

New Jersey Nets

Roundup: This might be the funnest team to use because they have many assets to trade for. They are young and have money to spend if you want to build a contender built around the low post game and athletic guards.

Advantages: Down low they can definitely hold their own against any team. The three big men Brook, Murphy, and Favors are the perfect blend of talent to shoot midrange and bang inside. This team is also loaded on the outside with athletic guards and wings to drive the lane and rack up points in the paint at will.

Disadvantages: This might be the worst long range shooting team in the division. Other than Morrow this team will struggle to hit the long range shot and thus defenses will seep in the paint to neutralize the inside game.

Problem Positions: Need to find a quality(all-around) shooting guard. Terrence Williams s a great athlete but will struggle long range. This team will also need a backup center for brook cause Brook cant play 40 minutes a game. Travis is a decent starter but is at his best when comes off the bench(remember Portland).

First moves: Try to trade Terrence for a shooter like Ben Gordon or Azubuike. Don't be afraid to unload Devin Harris for an shooting pg. This is an inside-out team so plan accordingly. Plan accordingly for a big splash for free agency because you could sign at least one big name to to the wing or back court.

New York Knicks

Roundup: Ahh, The GM office in MSG will be busy with this up and coming chise' looking to make a bang in 2010. In order to do that they need to make a few changes to take the next step. They will struggle the first year but they will grow into a title contender by tip off 2011.

Advantages: Money money, yeah yeah. They are in position to spend money in the coming offseason. The have arguably the most explosive pf in the game in Amare'.Great shooters in Azubuike, Gallinari(euro Lebron), and Rog Mason. This just seems like a Dantoni team

Disadvantages: This team is weak in defending the paint, I mean severely weak. Amare' and Ronny aren't the best post defenders and will struggle rebounding as well. Raymond Felton isn't the point guard that will lead this team in the future as he want to shoot too much and would be better coming off the bench.

Problem Positions: Needs rebounder's bigtime, Amare' got outplayed by LO in the WCF so your gonna need a center who can grab boards like Rodman to neutralize. They need a more pure point guard to lead the team but i will leave that off until the next segment.

First moves: DO NOT TAKE ON AN SALARY IN THE FIRST YEAR!!!(hope you get what I'm saying). I would sign AI or Marbury on a one year deal if it were up to me though. The summer of 2011 will be your time to get your "Isiah" on. Point guards are a plenty here.
Look for CP3 or TP if you wanna go a little cheap. And if you can try to get a decent center to help out in the paint.

Philadelphia 76'ers

Roundup: The old King of the ABA, The sixers. This will be a challenge because they have no money, long contracts. And young inexperienced players mixed with washed up old guys that nobody wants. Harsh huh. It will take you years just getting this team competitive.

Advantages: They have youth, and that allows you to develop these young guys over time to productive role players. They also have Andre Igoudala which is their only asset. *cries slightly...not really*

Disadvantages: They have Elton Brand who forgot what he did with the clippers and makes almost 20 mill a year. A center controversy that you need to figure out what to do with. This team is Evan Turners which is tough for a Joe Johnson clone who wont have the skills to will his team to wins(sucks but true).

Problem Positions: Power Forward is the biggest issue for this team to figure out cause Elton isn't cutting it anymore. This team also lacks an explosive scorer down low who can take over the paint.

First moves: To be successful with this team you will need to go out on a limb and try things you normally wouldn't. Get rid of Elton Brand by any means necessary. Also resolve the center controversy by trading up for one of them and maybe getting a draft pick!

Toronto Raptors

Roundup: The team that the U.S. gave to Canada. This team is trying to find an identity after the Bosh era's ending and the Hedo Turkoglu slap-in-the-face. They need direction and you need to make a gameplan. Just a thrown up band of nba journeyman(aka role players).

Advantages: This team young for the most part and the players can be developed into beasts in just a few short years. The guards are fast and athletic as well as Amir Johnson. Use the fast break on your opponents to open up the court for your shooters on the arc.

Disadvantages: This team has no "go-to guy", which hurts you as you play against those teams who can lock you down one on one(think Celtics, Heat, and Lakers). This team also has a gaping hole that CB4 filled previously down low which leads to the team struggling scoring in the paint.

Problem Positions: This team has a lot of problem positions to work on in the early going. Jose Calderon is overpaid for what he gives you back so look to trade for him. The power forward spot is filled with raw athleticism but lacks severely on the talent aspect of it.

First moves: The first thing you should do is try to get a package deal to bring a primary scorer to the table. Look for a Danny Granger type guy to come in and help out. You might need to sacrifice either a draft pick for a scorer or look to get a scorer in the lottery you could build around. Just think of a rebuilding strategy and try to stick to it.

look for the southeast division at 2:00pm pacific time on 9/29/10
