Arrogance and Karma Catching Up with Belichick Stuck
Posted on January 21, 2013 at 01:21 PM.

Did New England and Bill Belichick get beat at their own game?

It was only a matter of time before the hoodie behind Spygate finally got a taste of his own medicine.

Call it karma, the law of averages, or good ol' fashioned irony; but it sounds like the Baltimore Ravens may have out-smarted New England and head coach Bill Belichick in their AFC Championship game victory this past Sunday. During pregame commentary of the CBS broadcast, Baltimore defensive personnel was paraphrased as having knowledge of all of Tom Brady's offensive audible calls and hand-signals.

But surely the Patriots would adjust. Bill Belichick, the son of the man who literally wrote the book on football scouting, couldn't possibly lose his edge by failing to stay one step ahead mentally. Or maybe he did?

How else do you describe a thirteen-point performance by the league's highest scoring offense? The Patriots -- who averaged nearly thirty-five points per game (per game!) during the 2012 regular season -- underperformed the law of averages on their home turf by over twenty points. Meanwhile, Baltimore touted the 12th ranked scoring defense in the league (21.5 ppg) in 2012. Granted, anything can happen in the NFL and especially the playoffs, and perhaps Bill Belichick getting out-foxed is one of those things.

Bill Belichick is the supposed master of situations and has found ways to win games with less-than-stellar players. Patriots offenses have always been elite thanks to Tom Brady's skills -- mental as much as physical -- and the defensive side has done just enough to stay one step ahead of opponents.

But have the Patriots -- and Bill Belichick -- suffered yet another season-ending blow thanks to their own arrogance and subsequent complacency? Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs things so. Or maybe their edge was Spygate-type tactics. After all, the Patriots haven't won a Super Bowl since the scandal occurred.

But even worse for Belichick's standards, perhaps the Patriots failed to evolve; losing their edge. It looks like the brains under the hoodie got beat at their own game.

Sound Off: What is Bill Belichick's legacy at this point in his career? Is karma at play in the recent failures of New England to win a championship?

I have never liked Belichick, but the thing about this game that really turned me was the refusal of the post game interview. Seriously, you send McCourty out to talk, but you wont? And some people question why this team is thought of the way most people think of them

yea because arrogance and karma are the reasons why the patriots lost to the ravens. you're argument sir is completely flawed. the team which wins is the team which played better football the day of the game. as for this imaginary thing you called karma. The Patriots have had a better record than before spygate (look up the yahoo article). As for the post season, theyve been in the Superbowl 2 times since then, looking oddly familar to their 3 beforehand. All 5 superbowls could have gone either way. And who are you, Terrell Suggs, "those arrogant f*****rs"? If you're going to talk about karma talk about him in two weeks. Tell me the last time Belicick or Brady talked smack about the other team like that. Not about spygate, something which other teams admitted to doing too.

@mrnice4884
Agree fully

where's the karma of ray lewis being a murderer then? i'd say thats kind worse than taping some hand signals, this was a pretty stupid read, and @kunner jim harbaugh did the same thing last year, boo who belichick is mean to the media, get over it.

Karma is not real. Karma is something losers in life talk about to make themselves feel better. Patriots lost because the Ravens played better than they did

Well theyre damn sure Smug and I'm glad they got their comeuppance! I agree with the writer, KARMA has come back to bite them in the butt.

Karma?? The patriots are the most successful team of the past decade. They have been in 7 out of 8 last AFC championship games. Thry might be the greatest dynasty ever so this article doesn't really make me think any different of them

# 8 WaddupCouzin @ Jan 21
Dude they haven't won a SB in Damn near a decade.

Couzin, they haven't won a Super Bowl in 8 years, but how many other teams have? The Pats have been more successful than most other teams, even after Spygate. On another note, Suggs' comments were completely out of line. I mean, they just won, so don't act like a spoiled classless jerk while you're at it. What does he have to gain by saying that? Go celebrate your win instead of ragging on your opponent. They went out and beat a good team, but putting down your peers with expletives is just pathetic.

If your only reason for why the patriots have not made the super bowl because of the spygate is so stupid. Sure belichick is a complete monotone jerk but that is what the nfl needs, that one guy everyone hates and yet no one hated belichick or tom brady until the spygate. People need to put on their big boy pants and grow up. The patriots are a great team and will be for quite a while because of their youth and the talent they will get in the years to come. I am a HUGE patriots fan but the ravens were the better team and the patriots didn't play their best. Brady and Belichick are probably the best coach/quarterback combo ever. Sure they haven't won a super bowl in a long time but that doesn't effect them at all because they are always super bowl contenders.

Terrible article. They lost because Baltimore was better not because of karma.

The article loses all credibility once it reads "How else do you describe a thirteen-point performance by the league's highest scoring offense?"
I don't know, maybe they **** the bed? It happens. It happens quite often actually. Yes, they didn't show up for one game so lets go with the wildest assumption as being the reason why. Ugh, lol.

Don't know if it is Karma, or whatever it is. What I know is that I loved to see them loose. The Ravens teached them a lesson. Hate the Patriots, hate Bill Belicheater and hate Tom Brady. People now only talk about how Brady is the best QB ever, and how brady went to 5 Superbowls, and how Brady won 3 Superbowls, and Brady this, and Brady that. Well he is not the best ever. If it's Superbowls everyone talks about, well then, Montana has 4 Superbowls, and Jim Kelly took the Bills to 4, only one short of Brady ahahahah. For what I care, they could go 0-16 every year.

I'm no fan of Belichick, Brady, and the Patsies. But, if there is such a thing as karma (there isn't), I don't see why the bitch would favor the Ravens. They're nearly as obnoxious as the Patriots.

The difference in the game was the physicality of the Ravens defense and their o-line.

I am not sure why people care about interviews/pressers with coaches. With the exception of the rare meltdowns that end up as Coors commercials, they don't tell you anything. Sure, other coaches bring more personality to the table, but they still aren't saying anything. Just the same old cliches.
