Love the opening video, best the Show has done and might be one of the best ever. Now onto the game!

Honestly, that's still a day wasted on something that could've gone towards getting servers stabilized for launch or even working to fix schedules for online franchise.

Re: Early Impressions of MLB The Show 17

Before '16 I hadn't owned a console since PS2 and I don't think I had owned a baseball game since something crappy on Sega Saturn.

'16 was pretty amazing for me and '17 is just beautiful.

I haven't played many games yet but have noticed a few things.

1. I'm an even worse hitter in '17 than I was in '16. I was playing on all star in '16 with Armor sliders and could hit close to .300 with the Cubs.

I've had to start '17 on dynamic difficulty and I'm not even hitting well on Rookie!!!

2. I've had a few computer hitters swing SUPER early on fastballs, I mean the ball is still 35ft from home plate and they are swinging.

3. Billy Hamilton just tried to bunt so I threw at him. Instead of trying to get out of the way, he turned his his head to look at the Catcher as if the ball had already gone past him. The ball hit him in the knee, they called it a strike 'cuz he never pulled the bat back.

3. Fouls seem to curve a lot more than in real life and I've hit line drives to the wall that never get more than 15ft off the grass.

4. Players and lighting look awesome.

5. Can't decide who to play franchise with

I literally face palmed on this. If you can't see the massive improvements done this year over any other year of this game, then I dont know what to tell you. At any rate, all it seems you are wanting to do is rant so I wont change your opinion.

One day out of three hundred sixty-five.

Seriously?

Do you take every waking minute of your life at its utmost seriousness, to the point of scheduling your sleep to the exact second, so you don't lose even the smallest iota of time?
Because that's what you're coming off as.

The return on investment for Retro Mode could be far greater than it would be for online franchise, especially given how few people play the latter.

Well I am sorry for your face being palmed! Are you OK? .I hope you didn't faint.

Rant?...I am not ranting. I am not going around the forms ranting on the game. it is my opinion/impression of what I see.. I paid for the game and I have a right to an opinion. You don't have any issues then move along son. Wait a min, Aren't we allowed to say what we feel in this impression thread?.

I wont play a lot of retro, maybe once every other saturday, but thats still a hella lot more than I'm gonna spend playing online. and even if sds spent an entire year working on retro mode, thats their business, they've earned the right to push this game in the direction they choose.
if I dont like that direction, I'm free to jump ship at anytime, nobodys making me play it.

Re: Early Impressions of MLB The Show 17

Gameplay is fantastic, it's like a whole new game, which is so rarely the case in these annual sports games. The difference in ball physics is just ridiculous, the hits are so much more unpredictable and I love it. I can't wait to start my franchise just on the basis of how much the gameplay has improved. Don't really care about commentary, I tend to play music and just have game sounds, but it's nice to have some new voices, even if one of them barely speaks and when he does it tends to be to say something wrong.

Outside of the game, less impressive. Servers not working is just embarrassing, no idea how they can spend so much time and effort promoting a game, only to let themselves down by having an unplayable game. It wouldn't be such an issue if everything on this game is pretty much linked to online in some way.

Franchise has a fresh coat of paint and not a whole lot else. The weekly budget seemed like a nice idea, but makes no sense at all when I have to pay people annual contracts. So easily fixed by giving the option to see your annual budget and payroll, but for some reason you can't. Pretty disappointed the Franchise missions turned out to just essentially be a tutorial instead of actual long term missions and rewards.

DD has a lot of new stuff going on, which it's hard to really assess when the servers aren't working but they look interesting. A huge disappointment is how every program of long missions cannot be completed without playing online, a lot. I don't have PS+ and frankly don't want it, but I feel I'm being restricted from a lot of the best content because of it. (not the playing online, the rewards for the interesting programs)

RTTS seems much the same, but with a few extra animations and multiple choice questions. This should get more interesting as I go, but the core gameplay seems largely the same. (which is probably right, as it was pretty spot on already) The mode has some serous potential going forwards, very promising.

The gameplay alone is blowing me away, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in the direction the rest of the game has taken this year.
