The US as a nation, in the womens game, is the most dominant team of all time. Even when you add in the men, no mens side has spent the entirety of their existence as THE team you have to beat if you want to win a world cup.

Obviously the womens game hasn't been around long enough to properly compare, but the US women are only really comparable to the German and Brazilian men. There have been 8 womens world cups, and the US has played in 5 finals and won 4 of them. The other three world cups the US finished third. They have been the number one ranked womens team for roughly their entire existence. It really is unprecedented dominance.

So depending on how you want to deal with the time gap between the men and womens game, the US women are either the third best national side in the history of the game, or THE best.

From that standpoint, it IS kind of understandable that they are looking for a little more money and recognition.

And they have every right to bring up the wage gap; they should be paid as much as the men’s team. I just don’t like how they went about it, but it is what it is and I’m not upset in the slightest.
