Re: A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty

Looks like both teams did a good job of taking away the #1 receiver, both Cooks for OSU and Vaughn for EMU were pretty quiet. Seems like they just were able to make a few more big explosive plays of 20+ yards rushing, passing, and in the return game to come out with the W.

Funny that Zimmerman burned you as a wideout... for those of you that don't follow as much football out west, he switched to defense and became a pretty good safety for the Beavs.

Great to see this thing get going again.

Good job stopping Cooks, but like you said, that attention you gave him just opened up things for others. That 20-point second quarter by them was killer. In all, great showing though. You guys are close.

Good luck against Central!

It feels good to be back my friend. I actively miss this when life gets too busy and I don't have the time. With winter break fast approaching though, I am looking forward to spending some good time with this.

It was a disappointing loss but like you said, I think we had a very strong showing. I would love to get our first win against a major conference foe, but the early struggle will just make it that much better when we do reach that point.

Central has struggled recently in the MAC but it is still going to be a very tough matchup for us. Rivalry games (especially on the road) are never easy. Thanks for checking in my friend!

Good to hear from you my friend! Our passing game was definitely limited in this one and I found myself having to rely on my check downs frequently (probably a large part of why Phillips had such a big game).

The big plays continue to be our Achilles heel on defense. We just surrender way too many of them. We lack speed, size and we miss way too many tackles. We still have a lot of growing to do on this roster.

Loving the insight on Zimmerman, I actually did not know any of that. I love when readers can get into a dynasty and fill in gaps in my knowledge. It makes it even better. Thanks for checking in and the great feedback!

How does Michigan lose that badly to UConn?

On a more positive note, you looked good against OSU. That momentum definitely helps on the road against CMU

Year 3 (2013), Week 4, Team News

Eastern Michigan Team News: Week Four

Eagles Add Two More to Class of 2014 -- Four star defensive end David Sims and one star fullback Craig Johnson have both signed letters of intent with the Eagles. Sims is the third four star recruit brought in under head coach Dan Clayton. The Riverview, Michigan native is considered one of the top pass rushers in the nation and should immediately bolster the defense. Neither player took official visits with the team before committing.

He is a little smaller than the traditional defensive end but possesses good strength and should be able to hold his own at the point of attack. A solid wrap up tackler, Sims won’t make the big hit but he won’t miss the tackle either. He is the true definition of a blue-collar athlete.

The second big signing of the season, the Eagles were able to sneak ahead of perennial powerhouses Michigan State and Notre Dame to secure Sims. As with other signings this season, Clayton’s commitment on the recruiting trail the first two seasons is starting to pay dividends. The Eagles will be graduating two defensive ends in the spring. Sims may have the chance to start as a true freshman. The Eagles have struggled to generate a pass rush at times throughout the season and have frequently lost containment on the edge. These are both areas that Sims could help with.

He is a solid pass blocker but will have to improve his run blocking in the Eagles run heavy offense.

While not the flashiest of signings, Johnson fills a need for the Eagles with starting fullback Dylan Brooks heading into his senior season. He will almost certainly redshirt his first year on campus and should take that time to bulk up and improve upon his strength.

That DE has MLB written all over him, the right height/weight combo and the attributes to go with it.

Michigan has had a very rough start to the season thus far, with already two losses. Makes me wonder if Brady Hoke's days will be numbered. That being said, they have been pulling in some top recruiting classes the past two years so I have to think they will turn the ship around soon.

We played Oregon State tough and one or two more plays and we could have pulled off the upset. We will get there as a team. Like you said though, I think we have a lot of good energy to take into our matchup with CMU. Thanks for checking in!

That is a very intriguing idea and something I had been tossing around during his recruiting process although I was thinking of using him more in a DE/OLB hybrid role. Hadn't really given much thought to putting him in the middle. The only concern with having him stand up would be the lack of coverage ability. This will something I will definitely have to explore more down the road. Thanks for checking in man!
