Re: 7th Official NBA 2K24 Ratings Update - 3.7.24
Only a few teams in but so far this update is heinous. Not just in terms of the players who went up/down, but the ones who didn't.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERALL RATINGS DEVOID OF CONTEXT
I saw these ratings updates for the Milwaukee Bucks (6-0 since the ASB), and had a ****ing aneurysm.
Jae Crowder - 74 OVR (-1)
Pat Connaughton - 72 OVR (-1)
To the untrained eye, this seems innocuous. Jae Crowder has shot the ball terribly (36 FG%, 24 3PT%) since the All-Star Break.
I could not give TWO ****S about that.
-Crowder, despite bottoming out as a shooter for two weeks, is also the starting SF on the #2 team in the Eastern Conference.
-He is a quality defender, on a team that notably improved it's defense in the past two weeks.
-He now shares a rating with Marjon Beauchamp.
74 OVR Marjon Beauchamp (Post-ASB): 1.4 PPG, 5 GP, 4 MPG (22 TOTAL MINUTES)
Beauchamp totaled fewer minutes this update (22) than Crowder played PER GAME (24).
There isn't a soul alive (besides apparently a dev and his friend who will remain nameless) who thinks Crowder and Beauchamp have anywhere near the same value as NBA players. There are 5th graders who could figure this out.
This is what happens when you have amateurs (err, sorry, 10-year professionals?) just plugging numbers into a sheet without double-checking their work to see if things pass the sniff test. They could have taken as many minutes as Marjon Beauchamp played in the last two weeks and released a better product.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!!
Pat Connaughton (72 OVR)
Post-ASB: 46 FG%, 35 3PT% (7 PPG, 22 MPG, 158 minutes)
Connaughton didn't even shoot the ball poorly. His OVR change is due to Position changing from SF to SG. Ignoring that 2K has had a few years to figure out a better OVR formula for SGs and PFs, as this happens with regularity, Connaughton dropping in OVR is a major problem!
Despite being the Bucks 7th-8th man IRL, if you start a season in 2K24, Connaughton is the 14th man, NOT EVEN ON THE ACTIVE ROSTER.
74 OVR Marjon Beauchamp: 1.4 PPG, 4 MPG
73 OVR A.J. Green: 4 PPG, 11 MPG
73 OVR Andre Jackson: 0.7 PPG, 2 MPG (2 points, 3 games, 7 Minutes)
72 OVR Pat Connaughton: 7 PPG, 22 MPG (158 minutes)
Find me an NBA fan, team, coach who would take ANY of these players over Pat Connaughton. These roster devs lucked themselves into a job where nobody cares how ****ty of a job they do.
Now, I get it, I really do. Ratings are complicated. If only there were some quick fix (why, perhaps, a tangible band-aid!) we could implement to correct these inadequacies in a time efficient manner!
INTANGIBLES
50 Crowder
65 Beauchamp
75 Green
90 Jackson
65 Connaughton
They are so ****ing lazy (Yes, LAZY - a word I do NOT use lightly for game devs) and COMFORTABLE that adjusting ****ing Intangibles is now too high-effort for them. **** 22 minutes, they could have fixed this in 22 seconds.
It's a chore, there's no passion, no knowledge, TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE. Stop Dumpster Diving on the OS forums for cheap labor. HIRE A REAL EXPERT. Pay someone 90K rather than two clueless idiots 50K each. Maybe EA will hire them if they prefer football.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
GARBAGE STORY-TELLING / NO PULSE FOR THE LEAGUE
The biggest story for the Bucks (who should have been a keynote for this update) besides their defense (which got zilch reflection in ratings, badges or otherwise), is that their stars are starting to play better together. None of this conveyed in the ratings update.
Damian Lillard
Previous Cycle (1/26 to 2/15): 22 PPG, 4 RPG, 6 APG, 41 FG%, 33 3PT% (This earned Dame -2 OVR)
Current Cycle (2/22 to 3/6): 23 PPG, 6 RPG, 6 APG, 43 FG%, 42 3PT% (NO OVR CHANGE)
Dame slumps? No problem. Keep that same energy when he turns it around.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Previous Cycle: 29 PPG, 10 RPG, 7 APG, 66 FG%, 32 3PT%, 59 FT%
Post ASB: 30 PPG, 11 RPG, 5 APG, 64 FG%, 67 3PT%, 73 FT%
(8-12 3PM in 6 games, 25% of his season total, he is red hot right now for his standards)
Roster updating is about TELLING STORIES. This is what's happening in the league right now.
Nobody gives a flying **** about the specifics of whether or not a bunch of backups went up or down 1 point. What are we trying to tell the fans with each update? Why should they be excited about a content update? 2K Sports' roster team has been telling their fans for the past few years that they just don't care.
Paint-by-numbers check collecting.
