It's a Great Game BUT...What's With Fielder Urgency?

The defense just has zero sense of urgency when it comes to base runners. My closer just gave up a game tying run in the World Series bc I tried to throw a guy out at 3rd from left field on a base hit and the runner decided to head home and the third basement literally just casually caught the ball, stood there for a couple seconds, and then lackadaisically threw the ball home where the guy was barely safe.

Super frustrating and it's also weird bc all the reviews on this game said that the defense reacts quicker and I just don't see it at al. Outside of that I'm loving the game (even though I don't see many differences from year to year. I also glanced and didn't see another thread about this, but my bad if I missed anything and feel free to delete if need be.

Re: It's a great game BUT...

The urgency is weird because they definitely do it, but it's more pronounced in the OF, and I'm also not sure if ratings impact it or not.

It's also a weird thing where they know to show the urgency more often when the baserunner is fast, but when the baserunner is slow they make it a way closer play than they really should because they take way more time.

It's one of those yearly confusing things in this game because, again, it might be ratings-based to some extent but I dunno if ratings should make X fielder slower just by default.

I have definitely seen heightened outfield urgency. I can't say that I've seen a LACK of urgency from the infield yet. Not saying you're lying, I just haven't seen it yet. But the outfield is more "pronounced".

OP, in the scenario you laid out one question I would ask is did you preload the throw home?

The only time I’ve noticed fielding being “slow” was during rain games. And in those games if you click R3 you’ll notice that fielding ratings, reaction, are lowered to account for weather conditions

there's also a funny little delay in the outfield, where the ball is coming in hot, and they kinda pause before running their route to the ball.

like, zero anticipation.

I wish I would've taken a video the left fielder wasn't super deep I kind of paused to decide can I beat him at third or should I just throw home to be safe. And I threw third and was a little wait and he was heading home about a second before I got the ball at third. So like if I turn and fire from third to home I beat him I probably beat him by a few seconds or so. It was a weird animation he kind of just took his time and paused after they caught the ball and I needed him to just get the ball out relatively quick.

You know the animations when someone slow is running to first and the third baseman has all day to throw him out? It was similar to that. The throw DID get there in time too but it also takes a while for them to make the tag too. This doesn't happen to me every game but it's happened a couple of times in probably 30 games I've played and the scenario it happened was brutal. I probably lose the World Series bc of it lol.

Probably tied to their fielder rating. Average or poor fielding rating leads to average or poor routes.

It almost sounds as though neither the throw from the LF to 3rd nor the 3rd baseman throw to home were preloaded, therefore it results in a slower played animation as you have to sequence the throw on the controller which then has to trigger the animation. Its not super long, but there will be a delay.

Hopefully you can bounce back and win the World Series.
