Welcome to Blitzburgh: An Alternate NFL History CFM (1995-???? - M23)

General Information:

This franchise will use ITeach's 1995 edits of Soundwaves' 1995 Roster set. This thread will pick up at the onset of week 15 the 1995 season. I will provide a recap of the season thus far and then provide team and league weekly recaps going forward. As for the method I use for the games, I play all of the Steelers games and super sim the rest of the games on normal or slow speed. I will occasionally play the moment for big or interesting games league wide. I will also use this posts to track year to year results for the Steelers.

AFC North Week 15 Recap

Team Record Points Scored/Points Allowed

1. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3) 330/204

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter week 15 as one of the most consistent teams in football. They currently sport one of the best point differentials in the NFL. After 6-0 start the Steelers would lose their next 3 games and failed to score more than 10 points in each contest. QB Neil O'Donnell's absence was pivotal in the latter 2 as back up Mike Tomczak threw 6 interceptions in 8 quarters of work in relief. The Steelers are streaking in O'Donnell's return as they've scored 49, 22, 34, and 41 in their last 4 games. Yancey Thigpen leads the league in receptions and yards as Erric Pegram's and Bam Morris' joint efforts propel the Steelers rushing attack to 4th overall. The Steelers sport the 3rd rank offense in yards and are 3rd in points per game with their trigger man ranking as one of the leagues most efficient passers this season.

Defensively the Steelers are as good as ever. Through 13 games they've surrendered the fewest yards in the league. They're 4th in points allowed, 2nd in sacks, and sport the leagues best red zone defense. If there's an Achilles heel to this team it would be their turnover differential being a -9, the worst in the league. 20 turnovers and only 11 take ways for a normally ball hawking defense. That said they have forced at least 1 turnover in each of the last 4 games after a slow start in that regard.

2. Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) 265/294

The Bengals currently find themselves in the thick of a playoff race despite the -29 point differential. QB Jeff Blake is in the top 10 in the NFL in TD passes while sporting the 6th best rating in the AFC despite having a largely inefficient rushing attack that ranks 26th. The defense ranks 27th in points allowed but has a propensity for creating key turnovers in close games. This paired with them only committing 9 turnovers through 13 games is a recipe to win the close games.

3. Cleveland Browns (6-7) 235/279

The Cleveland Browns are an interesting team. They sport a -44 point differential, but are 5-1 at home. They can't seem to find a rhythm on the road as they sport a 1-6 road record. They got off to a solid start to reach 5-3 before the bye week. They've gone 1-4 in their last 5 and the offense has struggled during that stretch, failing to score 21 points in all 5 and failing to hit 17 in 3 of those. QB Vinny Testaverde is receiving much of the blame as the Browns look for answers. Vinny tossed 11 TDs to just 2 INTs before the bye. Since he's posted a 4-8 ratio. Big money WR Andre Rison has been vocal about his frustrations as his hot-cold weekly stat line looks like a stock market chart in flux. The defense was on of the top units in '94, but has taken a big step back in '95 by ranking 24th in points allowed, 21st against the pass and 17th vs the run.

4. Baltimore Ravens (5-8) 216/266

The expansion Ravens shocked the NFL in the first week of the season. A 17-10 road win over the Jets signified the Ravens would play hard under HC Dick Vermeil who leapt back into this unique coaching challenge after a lengthy hiatus that dates back to 1983. The ravens and Texans were very late additions to the the league thus they did not participate in the NFL draft. A roster filled with cast offs has posted a 4-3 record after their 1-5 start. They also sport the 3rd rank pass defense and a rush defense that's in the top half of the league. They're scrappy and while their big armed QB in Kurt Warner is inexperienced he's flashed enough to give the people of Baltimore hope something is there. Barry Foster has helped the rushing attack by grinding out 774 yards on the ground. The Ravens have a ways to go to be considered a player in the NFL landscape, but they've shown they will fight.

AFC South Week 15 Recap

Team Record Points Scored/Points Allowed

1. Indianapolis Colts (7-6) 222/248

The Colts lead the newly minted AFC South division after 13 games......yet they find themselves on the cusp of letting first place get away form them. Losers of 3 straight and a home record of 2-4 seem to be key knocks against this team. Their record is propped up by an impressive 5-2 road record. QB Jim Harbaugh has had an up down season throwing for as meaning INTs as he has TDs (15 a piece). With his two top WRs injured it doesn't look like it will get any better. The burden will continue to fall on RB Marshall Faulk who has eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season and sports a 4.6 yards per carry. Defensively the team is also struggling to find its consistency. They've had 6 performances where they've held teams to 17 points or below......but they've also had 5 performances where the opposition has scored 28 or more. It is looking like the winner of the AFC south will be the team that finds consistency as we enter the last 4 games of the season.

2. Houston Texans (7-6) 221/249

The expansion Texans find themselves in a battle for first place in the new AFC South. HC John Jenkins returned to Houston after serving as the HC for the Cougars for 3 years. Most recently serving as an assistant in the CFL his roster filled with NFL cast offs and CFL players as they did not participate in the NFL draft nor the expansion draft like the Ravens. QB Doug Flutie has been productive from a yardage standpoint within Jenkins' Run and Shoot offense. The Texans raced off to a 6-2 record in their first 8 games, but have since returned to Earth turning in a 1-4 record in their last 5. The team racked up at least 20 points 6 times in those first 8 games, they've only done so in their lone win over the last 5. The Texans currently have 6 players with over 20 catches in their first 13 games and are pace to have 4 players with over 600 receiving yards on the season. Passing yards haven't been the problem in Houston.....they need to convert those yards into points.

3. Houston Oilers (4-9) 223/260

The Oilers will be leaving Houston after the '96 season. HC Jeff Fisher leads a team transitioning from one of the most consistently competitive AFC teams (7 consecutive playoff appearances) to a younger squad trying to find its way as it heads for a new home. After an opening day win the Oilers lost 7 in a row. Starting QB Chris Chandler struggled to get the ball in the endzone during the stretch as the team failed to score more than 10 points in 5 of those 7 losses and were held to single digits 4 of those times. With the season lost the team benched Chandler and transitioned to QB of the future Steve McNair. The young QB has been a shot in the arm posting a 2-1 record in his 3 starts and posting a QB rating of at least 80 in 2 of the starts as well. Their lone loss in his early tenure came in a hotly contested battle vs the seemingly playoff bound Eagles. McNair was just inches away from throwing the game winning TD on 4th and goal with just a 11 seconds remaining. DT Ray Childress continues being productive. His 5.5 sacks and 13 TFLs are team highs. The defense has started to look better as of late with an offense that is able to stay on the field more consistently and produce points they're not being asked to win games alone.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-9) 192/299

HC Tom Coughlin is a Parcells disciple. He will continue to lay the foundation for this expansion franchise as they go through the up and downs of a young program. QB Mark Brunell has been asked to shoulder a lot of the burden and has flashed at times. His 2,984 yards are 5th in the AFC, his 58% completion percentage is tied for 7th in the AFC, he's had 3 300 yard games, he's had 4 games with a passer rating over 90, but he's also thrown the 2nd most INTs in the NFL and leads the AFC in that category. Tony Boselli looks to be the real deal at LT. Pete Mitchell's 48 receptions are 8th and his 3 TDs are 9th among NFL TEs in the first 13 games. The Jags will need to add more talent to the roster to take a step in '96. Not a single RB on the roster is averaging over 3.4 yards per carry and the defense ranks 31st in points allowed and passing yards against.
