FWIW, I think they didn't like that perception either. I saw them open for 311 and they didn't even play Smooth Criminal. They actually were pretty good, and played half the set acoustically, which surprised me. They seemed like a good band that went with the gimmick to get attention, and now is trying to shed that label but retain the success.
