–The eight participants for the #1 contender to the WCW World Heavyweight Title will be as follows: Dustin Rhodes, Goldberg, Jeff Jarrett, Rey Mysterio Jr, Ric Flair, Rob Van Dam, Scott Steiner, and The Total Package. The winner of the tournament at Mayhem in Atlanta will challenge for the WCW world title at Starrcade.
–Those ineligible for the tournament are the following:
WCW World Tag Team champions, Lance Storm and Mike Awesome
United States champion, Booker T
World TV champion, Vampiro
WCW Cruiserweight champion, Kidman
Diamond Dallas Page, who forfeited his right to challenge for the world title at Halloween Havoc
