Thanks, Chas! I felt good about this team's chances in November. When
Tony Ezell got hurt, I remember thinking, "Well, that's it." I thought losing him would cost us a few wins in the Big East. That would hurt our NCAA tournament seeding, and that would make our road to the Final Four tougher. We did a very good job of covering for Tony's absence, because the rest of our frontcourt guys stepped up.
And, as it turned out, I think we dodged two very dangerous bullets when Vanderbilt and Kansas were eliminated from the Midwest Region, whose champion we played in the Final Four. We matched up much better against UCLA than we would have against either of those teams. Kansas' offense was insanely good. Vanderbilt traditionally plays exceptional defense, and this year's Commodores were very good by their standard. No disrespect intended to UCLA, but I can't help wondering if we'd have made it to the final at all if we'd had to play either KU or Vandy.
