Jimmy Cahoon have been linked since they were in middle school. They grew up in adjacent states--New Jersey and Pennsylvania, respectively--and were teammates for two years on the grassroots circuit. Jimmy became the #1 recruit in the country, while Avery was ranked #3.
Graham Sims recruited both boys, and ended up choosing Avery because of his slightly greater talent for playing defense.
Cahoon has, perhaps, been the better collegiate player overall, but the difference between them is slight. Tonight, Avery gets the better of his friendly rival. He blocks 6 shots, a new career high that he'll proudly say was achieved against as tough an opponent as there is.
