Let's take a look at our opponent, on the eve of the national championship game.

Longhorns coach Thaddeus Dorton has been on the job in Austin since our universe began. His 2011/12 team won the national championship and lost in the final in 2016/17. A string of disappointing seasons in which the Longhorns never made it out of the first weekend of the tournament followed, and their prestige dropped from 100 to 89. Last year's team made it to the Elite Eight, raising their prestige back to 91.

The Longhorns play tenacious defense, ranking among the nation's top teams in many defensive categories. Point guard Charlie Nicholson and power forward Roscoe Olivo are especially good defenders.

A balanced offense is led by another senior, Leonicio Montero (14.9 PPG). Nicholson (12.8 PPG, 4.2 APG) and sixth man Robert Glidden (10.5 PPG) can also find the basket, and teams have to defend James Clary (10.1 PPG, 8.2 RPG), Greg Bono (9.4 PPG) and Olivo (9.1 PPG, 7.4 RPG) honestly, too.

The Longhorns are a poised, veteran team. Ten of their scholarship players are juniors or seniors; six are in their final season. But, at the same time, they have some weaknesses that Graham Sims and his team hope to exploit. The Longhorns take a lot of three point shots, and only Bono and Glidden are especially good at making them. Forcing Texas to try to win the game that way could work well for the Wildcats.
