My favorite old school basketball game was Dr J vs Larry Bird. I literally used to play that game for hours upon hours. Dr J best basketball in game dunker of all time IMO.

That was a good game but when Jordan vs bird came out on commodore 64 with the dunk contest..Whoo I was in heaven.

I was never into basketball as a kid, but then when I saw that Gamepro issue with Joe Montana on the cover on Christmas Eve 1990 that had the review of Lakers vs Celtics I knew I had to have that game. It was unlike anything I have ever seen at the time. March 1991 I finally got my Sega Genesis just for that game and basketball instantly became my favorite sport, and remains my favorite still to this day.

The square ball was EPIC!! Some of these stories are great too. The zoom in dunk view on Double Dribble made me a Bball video game fan forever!!

Ha. How ironic. I was just talking with a coworker about how far bball has come, yesterday, and I was saying how I pulled out my old gaming systems emulator disks for my Dreamcast a few weeks ago, playing Double Dribble, Tecmo's Basketball games and some random bball games I never wanted to play before, even tho I've had the disks for 10yrs.

I don't know, I probably played more Slam Dunk Super Pro Basketball for the Intellivision than any other bball game

This is why I try not to nitpick at NBA 2K because I was one of those kids who played Basketball for Atari. Double Dribble was so awesome when I came out. Then Lakers Vs. Celtics. Then NBA Jam. Then NBA Live. The NBA 2K. I appreciate the progression.
