5 things Madden NFL 25 has to do to be a success Stuck

5. Spread 'em out!

With the new spread offenses that are coming into popularity thanks in no small part to potential Madden NFL 25 cover boy Colin Kaepernick and similar quarterbacks, the offensive playbooks desperately need an overhaul. We've had very few changes in this department for years and it's even worse in the defensive playbooks. You simply can't replicate some of the more dynamic option attacks on offense and some of the exotic NFL defensive schemes right now and that needs to change.

4. The way you move...

Player movement has been a major gripe of Madden NFL players for years. A particular gripe are the mo-capped run cycles that show players stepping too high and striding too far. The change of direction animations are among the worst in sports gaming. We need true foot planting and momentum. The analog sticks should be more responsive when controlling a player allowing you to finesse the player's speed and agility. And while we're at it, can we please get WR/DB interactions back in the game? The five yard fight for the ball and the jostling for position?

3. CCM 2.0?

Connected Careers mode was more or less a critical success and while it left more than a few die-hard fans spurned it appears that it's here to stay. If that is the case, then the mode needs some pretty drastic improvement and that shouldn't be too much to ask. I think it's important that the Madden NFL team come to some sort of compromise with the fans who want 32 teams control. The sim engine was supposed to be good enough in Madden NFL 13 that 32 team control wouldn't be necessary, but we all know how that turned out. I could literally write pages on the improvements that are needed to CCM, but our own Madden forums do a pretty good job of outlining the issues, and frankly EA Sports should be aware of those problems and be working on a fix for Madden NFL 25 by now anyway.

2. Infinity Engine 2.0?

Most everyone agrees that the infinity engine was a needed innovation in Madden that was a long time coming. With a years worth of data collected and a full development cycle to refine the physics engine, Madden NFL 25 should be a much tighter, more dynamic experience without many of the quirks that exist in the Madden NFL 13. Simply put, clean it up, tighten it up, and expand it to further eliminate the reliance on animations. The infinity engine has the potential to be great and it flashed at times in Madden NFL 13, but the frustrating glitches and body morphing that happened really served to kill the immersion.

1. Get in the trenches!

One of the biggest complaints, for as long as I can remember playing Madden NFL, is that the blocking and Offensive Line/Defensive Line interaction is borderline broken. Blocking assignments in the open field are particularly troubling. Linemen seem to stick to each other, unable to disengage at the point of attack. The animations are stiff and often times out of place. There is no horizontal movement from the defensive linemen trying to shed blocks. Great defensive ends aren't nearly the threat that they should be. This is, in my opinion, the biggest offender in Madden NFL that is long overdue for significant improvement.

Final Thoughts

There are numerous other important improvements which could be touched on, including correct NFL uniforms, a challenging kicking/punting mechanic, fixing the broken penalties, and fixing the broken challenge system. All of these are important for the team at Tiburon to get right for Madden NFL 25. Only time will tell, but if the top five issues are addressed in this year's game, we could see what I believe would be the first great NFL football game on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The infinity engine was never physics based. Just random body interactions. Not true physics in the slightest.

1. thing that needs to be improved is blocking/blocking logic. This has always been a huge problem in the series and very frustrating and cause you to miss out on some big runs. Double teams in passing situations would be great as well. And the abundance chop blocks that happen (outside run plays benefit greatly from this bug). True disengages not the warp out of a block animation and make a full wrap tackle. Even though being pushed away.

2. Take out the momentum factor in the game and the so called player in game tendencies. That ruins the game and turns top notch players out of their character. Replace momentum with player in game streaks that boost stats when a player is in rythm. Like if your QB makes 5 passes in a row his accuracy and awareness should get a points boost while he is hot or if you break off a great run. You should get a stamina boost and break tackle boost to show like an adrenaline rush.....etc.

Bring back the real Hit Stick.

1.) Refine Infinity Engine2.) Sort out the awful logic & design of the career menu systems.

3.) Full 32 Team Control
4.) More Cut Scene variety
5.) Improve Commentary

Any new Physics engine put in by EA was just a name to go with all the new animations. When Psycho LB jumps ten yards in the air to catch a 30yd pass mid ark, this is not physics, it is an animation. In NHL when Chara(6'8" over 240lbs going roughly 30mph) runs a guy in the corner from behind and the player absorbs the hit only to go to the net and score. Not Physics. EA sports is a fraud.

EA sports if it's in the game it's not in ours.

Hopefully EA is reading this blog...I highly doubt it though. All of those additions will be welcomed and then some. I wish they would just take a year off and come out with a complete football game but we all know that won't happen since Madden is their cash cow.

I agree with all these points, I just don't see EA addressing them. The foot planting and line play most notably would require almost a "from the ground up" type approach. If it were easy to implement those kind of physics into their current engine, I have to believe they would've done so already.

Personally, I'd love to see more improvements made to the AI. Regardless of what EA may tell us, there are just certain play types that the CPU never adapts to, and this ruins the game for me entirely. I know I don't have to throw to the wide open curl route receiver every time they play Cover 3, but if it's 3rd down, I'm going to do it and be successful 90% of the time against the CPU. I also feel like the bad AI translates into the difficulty levels. Rather than playing smarter, making better cuts and so forth, it seems that upping the difficulty in Madden just handicaps the USER controlled team via the attributes. Again, it's a deal breaker for me to know that while I may be playing better than my CPU opponent, "he" is at an advantage because eventually he'll break 5 tackles on one play and score.

more flags in the game..Like when a ballcarrier lowers his helmet at a defender..FLAG..I want to see this in the game..It's a penalty! :/

In CC Mode we need to be able to import NCAA Draft Players. Playing with generic rookies suck!!!!!

Regardless if any of these things are addressed Madden will be a success it is every year in their(EA) eyes.Sales equals success to them and if your the only company making the most popular sport in America your game is going to sell no matter if it sucks.

I really don't have many issues with the game play much , small tweaks here and there can be adjusted to match what you see in the NFL.Its still a video game it will never be 100% like real life.

With that said,The only thing I want is remove the limitation of connected careers.
Let us be on the same team.Let my friend play safety while I play linebacker.

Pas put the emotions back into it. Toured of spring and it's like someone just tired shoes. Get players running to meet the scootescorer and grabbing hugging and pushing. Especially big time plays in big moments and fix the Camas at these moments to be like tv. Don't always zoom in closepan out sometimes. Have players helping each other up make it seem like a team.

Fix the instant replays, please. Make em like they were in NCAA 2004

Honestly I see these lists every year, but these are perfect points and all of this needs to be achieved. Although it sounds broken record like but I feel like this is the year that they fix the blocking and running (they seem aware of its issues) and we know that the CCM and RTP engine are multi year projects with the next iterations featuring their new versions. If we get the all these (I don't care about the spread crap) I will be PUMPED!!

They need to put create a team back in the game but make creating uniforms and stadiums more fun such as many uniform design options.
I would like a practice squad as well. A scouting combine in which you can watch players.
A Tournament game mode like in Madden 08

Perfect list

CCM scares the crap out of me. I am an offline Xbox gamer. I have no need for Gold membership, since I have no interest in online gaming. If all of the work is toward CCM (rather than plain old offline franchise), where does that leave gamers like me? I am correct that one would need Xbox Gold to use CCM, even as a single player thing, correct?

# 15 lynkraid @ Mar 20
Lets just hope Madden doesn't treat CCM like they do franchise mode. If they treat it anything like franchise mode over the years, then I wouldn't expect any improvements, expect a new interface and thats about it.
