What Happened To Playing Games For Fun?
Posted on November 4, 2011 at 05:31 AM.
I'm just wondering what happened. I thought we all like to play games to get away from the real world for a bit. Just some time to ourselves to enjoy. Put in a game and have some fun. Now it seems like no one is having fun everyone is just complaining no matter who makes the game or what game it is. It's like everyone buys the game they want and first thing ppl do is point out the flaws. I mean really? Ppl are ready to return games before patches come out and possible help probs they game have. Yes all games have flaws and problems but I feel many ppl nit pick waaaay too much now. Ppl have attitudes like game companies owe them something like all features they want MUST be in the game or else. Yes games have come a long way and we expect the best and most realistic we can get. But some ppl seem to forget no matter what at the end of the day its a video game. Let their be a lil bit of screen tearing nothing even major and ppl complain and gripe and gripe. I'm glad we have forums that some games companies read and try to fix probs that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the ppl who just never seem to be happy, everything is a problem. Relax ppl, I know we spend our hard earned money and want a a great product. For the most part I think most games are great, i do get upset also but I always remind myself hey growing up their was no patches and this is a video game so it's not that serious. Let's get back to playing games to have fun!!!

thats what I say these games have more options than games 10 and 20 years ago had and look far more superior.

For one the people that grew up playing video games back when the original nes came out or before grew up and expect more. Next, the internet allows everyone to be a critic or a female dog in most situations.

I understand where your coming from, but like you said we spend our hard earned money. If your going to put a game out there, don't say things like realistic and simulation. Hardcore fans are going to nit pick and rip a game apart every time because they feel like their being lied to. I agree with you though, some people go way to far like you said, they expect every detail they want in the game which is ridiculous.

I have been pounding this message for years. I have been gaming for 33 years and today's games are incredible. I understand some gripes such as aspects of a game not working properly or a game's feature list overhyping what the features really do.

I hate to paint everyone with the same brush but there are too many people who spend time looking for flaws in games. NCAA, even with its list of issues, is more than playable. Madden's gameplay is fun and NBA 2K is outstanding.

I think some of the negatvity surrounds these companies leaving extras of games out of the final version to be sold as DLC when back in the day that content was included. Tiger Woods The Masters is the biggest violator pretty much forcing gamers to buy courses because these courses are used in season. Dont buy the course you must skip the event which can impact standings.

But I agree with the OP. Dont overlook flaws but dont let them ruin your experience.

I like what your saying here, and i do agree with alot of it, but i can't let these gaming companies get away with straight up lying to me; or selling me a lemon of a game that they have promoted to death, in order for me to spend my money on.
Let's face it; games are so far ahead of themselves nowadays, it's scary. Hyping up a garbage game only to make money off of it is down right crook-ish.
Developers years ago had the time and the gaming knowledge of what was needed to make really good games; Now, as we speak, you have a group of Shareholders/ Suits calling all the shots, and pushing out incomplete/ broken games, all in the name of MONEY! at yours and mind exspense, and they don't care, to boot! just got to make that money every Qtr. It's ashame that developers are the ones that shoulder majority of the blame, but they also want to make LOTS of money too; and will cut corners to do so.
I am kool with the odd bug/flaw in a game; but not the ones that take away from my GOOD expierence of playing the purchased game.

cheers

I agree with the OP but given the nature of this site, the author's point will fall on deaf ears. This isn't a sportsgaming site. Get that much clear. Read the forums and you'll quickly learn that this is a Sportsgame TESTING site. Where people actually pay their money to test a game so that they can point out the flaws on a public forum in hopes of bettering the game's next edition. If I'm a dev....I'll just keep throwing games out there....gather all this FREE, in-depth analysis of the game from forums like OS and use it to improve next year's version....then rinse repeat. If one wants to to play for fun and enjoyment....they will have to purposefully AVOID these forums like the plague. Personally, I use the forums for sliders and rosters. Other than that, I stopped reading the main forums and impression threads a LONNNNNNG time ago. My gaming experience has become immensely more enjoyable as a result. Once you become aware of some supposed "game-killing" flaw or glitch(es)....you're done and your experience is ruined. Even if you wait for a patch or tuner or whatever....all you will do is continue to TEST the game to see if everything was "fixed". My advice? Stay away from sportsgaming forums.....at the very least avoid those main forums.

I agree with you 100% Jamake. If you see my gaming activity line up it changes all the time. It's because I still have fun. I never bought another 2K basketball game after 2K11 because I still think it's the best b-ball game ever on console. My gaming line-up take me away from the over-stressed emotional society we are living in. Jamake THANKS for reminding all of us to get back to what brought us to getting it in on the sticks.
