2K Football Idea
Posted on February 23, 2014 at 08:36 PM.
I was just thinking, if 2K is unable to make a licensed NFL game this year (or ever again), there is way they could still get into the football market. They could make a game, they could have 30 generic teams by default, but give the user full customization of the entire league, including creating teams and replacing their own defaults.

Think about it, they could expand upon EA's own TeamBuilder idea. That way, the user (us) could actually create the NFL ourselves. We could give them the ratings WE think they deserve. We could customize stadiums, mascots, logos, jerseys, helmets, everything. We could create our own league logo (we could just simply google the NFL shield and upload it). We wouldn't have to worry about the 2K Insider rating our players wrongly. Allow us to share our players, teams, and leagues with the community. We could have people creating the NFL or we could have people creating all sorts of fantasy leagues. They could make another game called "2K Amateur Football," or something, based on the same idea, but instead of a draft, they would have a recruiting feature.

It would open up the look of the game, so 2K wouldn't have to try and replicate real-life, just give us the tools to do so and looking at NBA 2K14, graphics would be the least of our worries.

Instead, 2K would REALLY be allowed to focus on the mechanics and gameplay. They could have a REAL physics system, unlike what EA calls RTP.

I just think with Madden being as stale as it is, people want something fresh and 2K or anyone really, should jump at the opportunity. We don't care if you give us a generic league out of the box. Give us great gameplay, and we will happily re-create all 30 teams and everything about them and with the roster creators here at OS, I doubt that would be much of a problem.

I don't know, it's an idea at least, I'm just sick of Madden and it being my only choice.

I'd be happy with them doing this, and then I'd request they do the same for College Basketball!

Last time I checked there were 32 teams in the NFL. No knock, I'm just saying...

Anyway love the idea though. I think they should have that for ALL SPORTS COLLEGE AND PRO. Just make a generic game with a huge number of team slots and you get to decide what the setup is. Leagues/Divisions/Conferences. Or just make a professional and college version of each game.

Open source, fully custom sports games are my dream. Let the modders go crazy, just build a good gameplay base.

Yeah, it would be amazing (at least in my head) too bad I have no knowledge of how to make a game haha. Oh and yeah my bad on the 30 teams haha I get the number between NBA and NFL confused all the time.

I like the idea and agree with above. Add college and pro. Would be awesome to have a game full circle with control of college teams and Pro teams. Play with your college team on Saturday and Pro team Sunday.

Sign me up for that right now. I can't even look at Madden anymore! i.e. - when I have to increase the AI of my top receivers, just so they don't drop the ball 5 times a game, then I know it's time for 2K to finally step up.

Bigger issue, Who develops it. You may or may not know, 2k didn't actually make the games, they were simply the publisher, The brain trusts that actually put in the work were at Visual Concepts who's sole focus seems to be on the 2k basketball series at the moment. Most if not all of their football team now work at other companies,

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. It doesn't necessarily have to be 2K, just someone other than EA. I'd love to see SCEA try their hand at a football game. A game where they don't have to worry about the aesthetics as much (the players, stadium, jerseys, etc. still need to be next gen worthy and we still need to be able to upload them from the computer to our system) but since they don't have to replicate real-life teams and stadiums, but they would REALLY be able to focus on core gameplay and that would be a really good starting point for them into football gaming. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a basketball game from them either...

If someone could do this for college and pros and for multiple sports it would be truly next-gen since the possibility of great gameplay and customization is there now.

I agree with Jake I would love to see SCEA make a game with the in depth qualities that MLB The Show offers. Plus I would trust that they would be like Russell and come check the boards to see what the consumer is looking for and then add them to the game unlike what we currently have with EA.
